Where does Cyber Monday come from?
Shop.org, a division of the National Retail Federation of the United States, was the first to use the term Cyber Monday in 2005. They had noticed that, for several years in a row, there was a peak in revenue and online traffic right on the Monday after Thanksgiving. The explanation was that people took the opportunity to make purchases from their work computers, where they had a faster connection and where they could not be caught by the little ones when buying gifts.
In 2005, they used the term "Cyber Monday" for the first time in a press release emphasizing that 77% of online retailers had seen a substantial increase in their sales on Cyber Monday the previous year, a trend that seemed here to stay and that, as you can see, is still booming. From there to appearing in the New York Times and expanding through advertising, there was only one step.
When is Cyber Monday 2023?
Cyber Monday takes place on the first Monday after Thanksgiving (in the US calendar), which has been the following Monday after Black Friday, and usually presents high discounts on online sales, especially in the electronics sector and technology. This year, Cyber Monday 2023 is November 29 th. but the offers will extend along a few days more.
